The latest release from Mr Sizzle clearly finds him in one of his better moods. With the New Route EP there was a clear contrast between the natural warmth of the eponymous track and the rougher, darker edges of flip side tracks Intern and Backward Son. Freak definitely edges on the side of the former, its rolling break and deep chords giving it a real effortless sound. There’s perceptible depth in here and it’s a track that manages to be both subtle and simple at the same time.

New Route is a syrupy warm blob of heart-tugging lo-fi – a soundscape that feels like it should have been unearthed eons ago. On the flip side, Intern is a brooding beast of crashing organic leftfield breaks, while The Backward Son pretty much does what it says on the tin, complete with a low-key bangra break and ghostly keys. Listen, fall in love and look forward to more from Sizzlax in the not too distant future.

Sizzlax is what happens when you fuse rich textures with tough broken breaks. Look out for their forthcoming EP entitled the ‘Wonder Years’ . If you’re already hungry to find out more check the vaults and download the free cuts ‘Intern’ and ‘Backward Son’.
Coming 2008

This Dojo collaboration melds hip-hop with old-school blues and smokey-bar jazz in a down-beat transmission called Columbo. Joe Lewis brings together the voice of Taji and the mojo of live musicians to create an organic Sunday-morning-hangover-coffee-and-cigarettes sound in the process.
